FAQ

About Bloom&Co.

What does Bloom&Co. do?

Bloom&Co. supports brand and marketing strategy development, strategy execution and organizational capability building. We develop a UAV (Unique Attractive Value) from your company's strengths and customer insights, and build strong brands that drive sustainable sales growth. Founded in April 2015, we are headquartered in Toranomon, Tokyo, with an office in Singapore.

What is a UAV?

A UAV (Unique Attractive Value) is the value that makes customers keep choosing you. Rather than looking for reasons customers don't buy and removing them, we combine your company's strengths with customer insights to find value that competitors cannot copy, or find hard to copy.

When a strong UAV with a structural advantage is communicated correctly, the return on marketing investment can improve two to three times, and sometimes five to ten times.

Who will support us?

Our team includes more than ten director-level members with brand marketing experience at P&G and other leading companies. Our CEO, Yasuhiro Yano, spent about nine years in brand marketing at P&G and served as Executive Officer and Head of Marketing at DeNA before founding Bloom&Co.

What is your track record?

We have supported more than 100 companies and over 300 projects, including global corporations, major Japanese companies, PE fund portfolio companies and startups. See our case studies, including Slack's entry into Japan, Coca-Cola Japan's "Coke ON" app, FamilyMart's "FamiPay" app, Nikkei's digital edition, JAFCO's rebranding and Rihga Royal Hotel.

Our services

What kinds of companies do you work with?

We work with companies of many sizes, from global corporations and major Japanese companies to startups, across B2C, B2B and B2B2C.

What challenges do clients usually bring to you?

Clients often come to us with challenges such as:

  • Sales of a long-selling brand have stalled and the brand feels weaker.
  • We want to differentiate from competitors but don't know how, or we should be differentiated but still aren't selling.
  • Promotions focus on short-term sales, and the brand is not growing over the medium to long term.
  • We grew through performance advertising, but rising customer acquisition costs mean we need upstream marketing such as demand creation.
  • We want to strengthen our marketing organization but lack people who can build strategy.
  • We want to strengthen our marketing organization but have no one who can lead the effort to build marketing capability.

Do you only build strategy, or do you also support execution?

We work alongside you end to end: from strategy development to execution that maximizes its impact, measurement, and building the processes to run and improve it.

How are you different from typical consulting firms or advertising agencies?

Instead of a "proposal-based" approach where the process is a black box, we take a "hands-on partnership" approach with a transparent process. We apply our framework through real work together with your team, working as one team with your members to develop and execute the brand strategy best suited to your company, and the know-how stays with you. Our goal is to build a marketing organization that can run on its own, not one that keeps depending on outside help.

Can you help develop our marketing talent and organization?

Our brand marketing talent and organization program covers identifying people with an aptitude for marketing, developing them through real work alongside our director-level members, and building an organization that fits your business.

Can you support our entry into the Japanese market?

Starting with Slack's entry into Japan, we have supported many global companies entering the Japanese market. In both Japanese and English, we help you understand Japanese customers, define a value proposition and messaging that align with your global direction and are optimized for the Japanese market, and develop and execute your go-to-market plan. We also explain the plan to your headquarters and work with you toward a successful entry into Japan. If you don't yet have a marketing lead in Japan, we can act as your Japan marketing lead. See Japan Market Entry.

Do you support Japanese companies expanding overseas?

Including through our Singapore office, we support Japanese companies in developing marketing strategies for overseas markets such as Europe, the US and Asia.

How we work and fees

How much does it cost?

Fees depend on the scope of the project, so we provide a quote after defining your requirements together.

How long does a project take?

As a guide, strategy development takes about three months, execution about three months, and strategy validation (quantitative research) two to three months. From strategy development to execution, the shortest timeline is about six months. For initiatives that can be executed right after the strategy is set, such as digital, execution can start in as little as about four months.
